Zasvojenost z internetom - sedanjost ali prihodnost? Addiction with the internet - the present or the future?

Abstract

The first part of the article presents various opinions and definitions of addiction with the internet, lists the signs of this addiction in one's psychical and social life, and describes the main difficulties in identifying this kind of addiction. The comparison with foreign research shows that the studies on addiction with the internet have mainly been carried out on the internet, which means that the sample was self-selective and does not allow for any generalisations. The second kind of research were case studies, on the basis of which we can safely say that the addiction with the internet does exist. The second part of the article brings a research done with the students of the third year secondary schools in Ljubljana (N = 1194). The results indicated only few signs of addiction in the students. The analysis of extreme cases showed the signs of addiction to be connected with gender and the kind of school, but not with the place of living (home or student dormitories), academic achievement or education of parents. The addiction, however, is connected with the kind of internet use, i.e. the use of e-mail, chatting, viewing erotic pictures, loading software, news groups, playing games and recording music. No such connection was established with the search of information and the search without any special purpose.

Key words: internet, addiction, youth.

Latentna struktura prostora izgorevanja in njegovih determinant v slovenskih vzgojnih zavodih, mladinskih in prevzgojnem domu The latent structure of the burn out syndrome and its determinants in Slovene residential care institutions
Marica Horvat

Ključne besede: sindrom izgorevanja, vedenjsko in čustveno motene osebe, vzgojni zavodi, vzgojitelji, učitelji, svetovalni delavci.

Abstract

The burn out syndrome is a syndrome of emotional exhaustion, of depersonalisation and reduced capacities, characteristic of individuals working with people. It can also be observed in the staff of our institutions for behaviourally and emotionally disturbed children/youth. With the application of the Strassmeier tools, adapted for the Slovene speaking area, we tried to establish the structure of the burn out syndrome of this staff. We used the component factor analysis to extract the latent dimensions of the burn out syndrome structure and of the determinants responsible for the origin of the mentioned syndrome. The discriminative analysis helped us to find out the differences in the assessment of experienced professional loads, climate at the work place, satisfaction with one's own life, responses to professional loads, support of the environment, attitude to the behaviourally and emotionally disturbed child/youth and in the evaluation of suggestions and wishes for improving the quality of life of youth care workers, teachers and counsellors.

Key words: burn out sindrom, behaviourally and emotionally disturbed children/youth, institutions, individuals working with people.

Seminar za voznike, ena od obravnav kršiteljev cestnoprometnih predpisov Seminar for drivers, one kind of treatment of the violators of road traffic regulations
Katarina Turnšek, univ. dipl. soc. ped., Motomedia, Dunajska 106, 1000 Ljubljana

člen, t. i. Seminar za voznike.

Ključne besede: promet, prometna nesreča, agresivnost, kršitelj cestnoprometnih predpisov, seminar za voznike.

Abstract

According to the number of deaths from traffic accidents, Slovenia is considered to be one of the most dangerous European countries. In our country the response to numerous violations of road traffic regulations is still very repressive, and the new traffic law with its more severe penalties has in no way improved traffic safety. However, the new Law on Safety in Road Traffic (May 1998) allows for a new, in our country not as yet practised, way of treating violators of traffic regulations: the 171st Article speaks of the so-called "Seminar for drivers" (following the example of rehabilitation programs for drivers violators in other countries) which can be implemented ever since last September. The Law allows part of the seminar contents to be carried out by a social pedagogue.

Key words: traffic, traffic accident, nesreča, agressivness, violator of road traffic regulations, seminar for drivers.

Ključne besede: otroci in mladostniki z motnjami vedenja, izvendružinska namestitev in obravnava, participacija uporabnikov.

Abstract

The request for the participation of children in all the important issues and decisions related to children themselves is particularly emphasised in the Article 12 of the Convention on the rights of children (UN, 1989). The decision about referring the children with behavioural disorders or at risk of disorders into an institution and the life of a child in the institution certainly represent important situations and segments in the life of a child, but also in the life of his or her family. To what extent do the children themselves participate in that process is the question that this paper attempts to answer. The aim was to clarify the following: what is the meaning of participation in this context, who gains from it and what is gained from it, and is it realistic and possible. The research part of the paper provides a short presentation of the results related to the practice of respecting the rights and needs of children in the situation outside family, based on the estimations of the children themselves and their educators.

Key words: children and youth with behavioural disorders, situation and treatment outside family, participation of the users.
